THIS WEEK ON JT40
Easily spending a second week at #1 on Jessica's Top 40, Rush continues their domination with "Workin' Them Angels". The song from their newest album "Snakes and Arrows" and live counterpart flew up the charts since debuting five weeks ago, and looks to dominate in yet another one of my chart's off periods. Rush prevents Kylie Minogue's "All I See" from becoming the Aussie pop superstar's second #1, moving up 5-2 in its tenth chart week. Regardless, it becomes the highest charting from her album "X" and best charting since "Red Blooded Woman" spent two weeks at #1 in April 2004. Paramore's former #1 "That's What You Get" falls one from 2-3, followed by 3 Doors Down's "It's Not My Time", up 6-4 to become their highest charting single - a boost partly influenced by the fact Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson appeared on the band's 2002 album "Away From The Sun". Def Leppard's "Nine Lives" slips 4-5 to round out the top 5. The Foo Fighters' "Let It Die" moves 13-8 in its fourth week to become the band's fourth top 10 hit, a sharp recovery from the #27 disappointment of the UK digital-only release "Cheer Up Boys (Your Make Up Is Running)". Fireflight also earns their fourth top 10 hit with "Brand New Day", up 12-9 in its sixth week, aiming to successfully follow up "Unbreakable", which became their biggest hit on JT40 earlier in the year. Aimee Mann has the pick of the week with "Freeway", the first single from her upcoming album "@#%&*! Smilers", up 23-14 in its fifth chart week. The song started out slow, but now benefits from my recent interest in Rush's music as a result of her appearance on the band's 1988 single "Time Stand Still". The greatest gainer is Motley Crue's "Saints Of Los Angeles", which moves fourteen positions from 33-19 in its second chart week. The Offspring's "Hammerhead" is the week's only debut, entering at #35. The first single from the band's upcoming album "Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace" is the band's second chart entry, following "Can't Repeat" from their 2005 greatest hits album, which peaked at #22. Further down, the Veronicas re-enter at #40 with "Untouched" thanks to the upcoming US release of the single. The song reached #26 back in February.
